What are the Main Causes of Obesity in America Today?
It is clear that America is suffering from excessive obesity today but many people are still unsure of what the main causes are. Health professionals today are proclaiming that the main cause of obesity in America today is an energy imbalance. Basically this means that the average American today is consuming far more calories than their body is able to burn off in a day. Although many people tend to consume more calories than they need to survive in a day, this rule is referring to those who are doubling or tripling the amount of calories in a day or less.
Another main problem with the obesity level in the USA today is the lack of exercise and this goes for children as well as adults. More and more children have stopped playing outside and participating in physical activities and turned towards computers and electronics for their entertainment purposes. This goes for adults as well. Electronics have done wonders for our world today but they also encourage people to remain stationary throughout the day instead of engaging in physical activity. It can be hard to get out of this routine and lifestyle but it is necessary in order to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Now that the two main causes of obesity in America have been exposed it is time to do something about it. In order to begin changing a destructive lifestyle you first have to take the time to understand and see where you are going wrong. When you step back and realize just how little exercise you get in a day or how many empty calories you intake you can begin to see where the work needs to be done. This does not mean that you have to start out running an hour a day and eating nothing but carrot sticks. Start out slow.
Start by including a 30 minute brisk walk into your daily routine. From here start paying more attention to what you eat throughout the day. Begin by regulating your snacks and then progress to your meals. Snacks should be filling enough to subdue your hunger but they should be healthy as well. A great filling snack could be a cup of yogurt, fruit juice or even a simple granola bar. Each of these snacks contains low levels of calories and is enough to hold you off until your next meal. This is the biggest mistake most people make is eating too much for a snack and then heading to their next meal, consuming more calories than their body can handle.
You will no doubt begin to feel the difference in your energy levels as well as your overall health and will want to learn more to spread this new lifestyle into all areas of your existing routines.
