The blood type diet is a diet that was developed by a naturopathic doctor named Peter D'Adamo. When you are on this diet a nutrition plan is developed for you based upon your blood type. The theory behind the diet suggests that certain blood types are intolerant of certain foods. The diet suggests that if you avoid these foods not only will you lose weight, but you may see an improvement in allergies and overall health.
If you are interested in following the blood type diet you need to know what the diet plan for your blood type is. The majority of people have type O blood. If you have type O blood you are supposed to limit your carbohydrate intake, and avoid eating dairy products in excess. People with O blood type are supposed to eat a diet high in proteins, including those derived from meat or fish. In addition to this, they should altogether Brazil nuts, avocados, and oranges. Type O is also encouraged to exercise frequently.
People with less common blood types like A, B, and AB also have their own unique dietary recommendations on the blood type diet. If you have blood type B the diet recommends you avoid chicken, and bacon. However, it encourages you to eat plenty of meat, diary, fish, fruit, and vegetables. If you are blood type AB you are supposed to combine the blood type diet for A and B.
The blood type diet does work for many people who try it. Many experts believe that it is coincidental, but there is some scientific theory behind each blood types recommendations. The creator of the diet suggest that lectins interact different with each blood types antigens. For this reason, the diet aims to control these reactions through reducing or eliminating the consumption of certain foods. The theory believes that the different blood types tolerate food differently because of when they were evolved. For instance, blood type O is the oldest blood type. That is why it is considered the hunter blood type and needs more proteins.
Critics of the blood type diet claim that it is too early to have enough concrete proof that the diet is effective. The diet also promotes decreasing your calorie intake and cutting back on refined and processed foods. Naturally, these are wonderful suggestions, but they also lend to the diet's criticism. This is because critics attribute any success the diet may have to these simple lifestyle changes.
There is nothing wrong with trying a diet that is based on your blood type. If it encourages you to eat healthier and it helps you shed some unwanted pounds that is what is most important.
